Question:  My cards look fine on the screen but when I print them, they have "SAMPLE" printed across them.

Answer:  The software has not been activated by a serial number. When you install ID Magic, it gives you the opportunity to enter your serial number. If you do not enter it then, you must enter it from the program itself. You can do this from the file menu under "Serial Number". Make sure to type the dashes (-) as well. The serial number is printed on a white label on the front of your software envelope. If you do not have a serial number, you will need to purchase a retail version of ID Magic.

Question:  I can't do anything on my card design! It seems like the whole design tab has frozen!

Answer:  Make sure that you do not have the layout locked. Click on the button that says "Unlock Layout" under the layout tools section.

Question:  I want to access the data in my ID Magic database. How do I do it?

Answer:  ID Magic uses the Borland Paradox Database Engine to store the various data. If you have Paradox and know how to use it, you can open the ID Magic database using that program. The easiest way to find this file is to use the "Search" feature in Windows. Seach for "IDCard.db" which will be in a folder called DbDir. The file IDCard.db contains all the data you have entered in the fields of your cards.

If you do not have Borland Paradox, you can set up Microsoft Access to operate with the Paradox database. This is not a trival process for most people, and we recommend that you consult a technician to set up the ODBC linkage necessary to do this.

Note: It is possible to transfer your data to another ID badge program. Oak Tree Data has created a document to transfer to Asure ID, the program we offer to replace ID Magic. Please contact Sales for more information on Asure ID and our discount program for ID Magic customers, or click here for the data transfer document.

Some ID Magic cross-hatch backgrounds are available for use in Asure ID card designs. We have a red, blue, green, and yellow pattern available in JPG format. Click here for the ZIP file containing these images (aprox 61KB).

Question:  When I try to print the badge, it gives me a long error and won't let me print.

Answer:  ID Magic remembers what printer you printed to and tries to automatically set the driver to that printer. Some Windows configurations give an error when this is done. There a few ways to fix this. The first way is to always click on Print Setup first. (This will only work after you exit and restart after receiving the error). Another way is to make your badge printer the machine's default printer. To do this, go to Start > Settings > Printers. Right click on the badge printer and select "Set as Default Printer". For advanced users: Open the IDM40.ini file located in your Windows directory. Set PIndexEnabled=False
